The US “Permitting Council” and EPA have cleared a massive uranium mining (fracking) project in the Black Hills. This fight has been going on for approximately at least a decade. I personally appeared at one of the original EPA hearings for comment on May 9 2017 and so have been tracking it on occasion. I just happened to search for it today.
The project was canceled in 2020 but is now been re-activated.
Such an operation would devastate the water of the Black Hills and severely harm environmental integrity. For these and other reasons it would also be deeply harmful to the local peoples of the area.
The EPA itself shares openly that uranium mining leaves behind radioactive waste and that we should never make contact with water from abandoned sites:
